With your application you must supply your current passport with two recent passport-size photographs certified as a true likeness of the applicant on the reverse; a certified copy of the birth certificate or passport ‘bio’ page showing date of birth. A certified copy of evidence of any name change (e.g. marriage certificate) All documents that have been originally issued in a language other than English, must be provided in the original language and in an English translation.

Proving your evidence of recognition of prior learning

The assessment process relies on documentary evidence. The ADI trade assessor will look for information in your documents that shows your skills match the Australian standards. Make sure you clearly understand the competency requirements.
The information you provide must be relevant to the Drilling qualification. You must give us enough information to show you can do all aspects of the competencies described for your qualification. The evidence you provide should be:

  • Current – show that you are using the required skills now in your work and that you are working /have worked recently as a skilled worker or tradesperson.
  • Authentic – be evidence of your own work, not the work of others.
  • Relevant - only include documentary evidence that clearly supports your application.

Refer to "Example of Evidence Guide".

Certified documents

ADI will only accept original documents as this makes it easier to verify your evidence. If you cannot supply original evidence (particularly an employment reference) you must provide certified copies. All documents must be certified as a true copy of the original by a person who is authorised to certify documents in your country. In many countries people such as lawyers, Justices of the Peace and Public Notaries (among others) are authorised to certify documents. Each copy of the document must be certified separately and must show clearly:

  • the words ‘certified true copy of the original’
  • the original signature of the certifying officer
  • the name and address or provider/registration number (where appropriate) of the certifying officer legibly printed below the signature so that ADI can contact the certifying officer if necessary.

Please note:
Original documents must be provided in original language as well as an English translation.

ADI does not accept:

  • Photocopies of certified copies
  • Certification by a company rather than the individual within the company who is authorised to certify documents
  • Any document where the certifier’s contact details are illegible
  • Certification made by persons not authorised to certify documents in your country.

Incomplete applications

Take care to ensure that your application includes all required identity documentation and that documents are certified. Review your application using the document checklist contained in the application form before final submission.
If your application does not include all required documentation your application may not be considered. In this case ADI will contact you to determine how the shortfall can be rectified. If sufficient documentation can not be provided, Your application fee will be refunded less $AUD100.00 for administration costs. You must then submit a new application and pay a new fee.
If you do not have your training or licence/registration documents, try to obtain the required documents from the relevant institution or authority. Most educational institutions or authorities keep records and will reissue these documents.
