VISA 457 Application and assessment
Australasian Drilling Institute (ADI) is approved by the Australian Government to conduct skills assessments for temporary worker (subclass 457) visas.

The Assessment process

A skills assessment involves an evaluation of your skills and knowledge to determine your competence against Australian qualifications.
A skills assessment is conducted in five stages:
1. Self evaluation (your own assessment before you apply)
2. Application and evidence assessment (assessment against the evidence you have submitted)
3. Technical interview (Interview by an assessor)
4. Practical Assessment (only if required)
5. Assessment outcome
Stage one: self evaluation (before application)
1. Complete a 'TradeSET' online self evaluation available from Trades Recognition Australia. Record your unique Skills Assessment Identification Number and save your TradeSET report to include with your ADI application.
2. Download and read the "Example of Evidence Guide". This will outline the types of documentation you must supply as evidence of prior learning.
Stage two: application and evidence assessment
You will need to submit an application to ADI to register for an assessment. Start collect evidence of your training and employment and submit/upload this evidence to ADI. This evidence will be evaluated by an assessor who is qualified in your nominated occupation/trade.
What do you have to do?
1. Complete and submit the application form:
Download a copy of the Application Form, fill it out and mail it back (with the required attachments) to ADI.

2. Pay the fee with the application and documentation. The initial fee must be paid before the assessment process can begin.
Stage three: technical interview
If you are successful in the evidence assessment, you will proceed to a technical interview. The technical interview involves a qualified assessor from ADI asking you a series of questions about your work.

The technical interview will be conducted over the web at a nominated venue in your country. Your technical interview may be photographed, video taped, or recorded. An interview time and place will be organised with you.
Stage four: practical assessment (only if required)
It may be that there is insufficient evidence gained through the evidence assessment and technical interview, however gaps can be bridged through a practical assessment. If this is the case you will be contacted and the option for a practical assessment presented to you. This will incur an additional cost, set with you at this time.
Stage five: assessment outcome
On successful completion of the assessment process, you will receive:
If you are unsuccessful, you will receive a Statement of Attainment recording the units of competency you have attained and feedback regarding further GAP training required.
Review/Appeal process
If you want more information or do not agree with the assessment decision at the evidence assessment, technical interview or practical assessment stages, submit an application for review. A review will be conducted by an independent panel. You will be provided with an explanation of why the assessment decision was made.
